Mutual Self Help Housing Program
The Mutual Self Help Housing Program, also referred to as the Owner-Builder Program, allows qualified families to build and own their own home. This is a unique opportunity to learn the skills needed to construct a home, work together with future neighbors, and also earn “sweat-equity” from the cost savings of doing the work.
Under the supervision of a NNHC construction supervisor, a group of 7-10 homeowners work together to build their homes.
Mortgage loans are funded by the USDA. The terms of the loan provide payment assistance (or subsidy) which reduces the mortgage payment for a short time. The amount of assistance is determined by the household AMI (adjusted median income).
